Chiron was gentle, kind and wise, unlike the other feral, lustful and aggressive centaurs. Rejected from birth, he was ‘adopted’ and trained in the healing arts by the twins Apollo and Artemis. He is probably the only figure in Greek mythology to always be portrayed as benevolent. He uses his wounding as the material from which to heal the split between his temporal nature and his immortal self. Chiron is known in astrology as the Wounded Healer. More fundamentally, Chiron in the natal chart represents our original split from the continuum of our Being, igniting a deeply-seated belief in our ‘separateness’, represented by our ego (the Moon, Cancer, 4H).

A baseline truth of our humanity is that to be alive is to suffer in various stages and degrees. How and from where we orient to suffering differentiates whether we suffer as a victim versus suffer for our evolution and empowerment. When we play small and isolate, the more we suffer as the former; the more inclusive and intimate we are with our wholeness, the more we suffer as the latter. We discover that the power of humility, love and self-forgiveness brings us to the threshold of our Chironic wound, where the vastness of our Being flows within the heart of our humanness. This level of self-intimacy alchemizes our unique Medicine, moving us into and through the world as an embodiment of Love & Kindness.
